Which One?

Im sure ill get battered for bringin this up again. But we have a lot of new impressionable members so nows the time to start influencing them to each side of Fever. We'll make this one simpler than other discussions though. So....

Juggling or Spinning???

I for one think Spinning is better. (I bet youre all so very suprised :S) The simplest move can look very impressive quite easily. You can spin poi in clubs on random nights out (as me and alex do so often) :) You know suprisingly I have actually started Juggling. (Yes Lilly you got me) it didnt take as long to get into it as I thought. I was gonna make you fight for getting me into it but ah well...

Mmmmmm just thinking about spinning to some Heavy Metal or some Drum N Bass is making me drool.

So yeah what are your thoughts and feelings on this very controversial fever topic.

And just to make sure that this message gets flagged on the site straight away... **comic entertainers**!!! :)

Andy... xxx

Now now Andy, none of that

Now now Andy, none of that speak here... can we stick to the dictionary definition if we have to say that at all please! :p

E V E R Y body knows poi is

E V E R Y body knows poi is better; it looks better, it has at least as much variety as juggling but is far more expressive. Poi wins hands down.

Everybody knows poi is

Everybody knows poi is rubbish more like. Juggling has so much more scope for a start and is much more social. I have never seen a group of 12 people stood passing poi between each other all working together but I've seen jugglers do it.

Make em juggle.

Out of curiosity, are you still meeting on sundays as I haven't been up yet this year.

Plumsie

The random from Leicester.

Hey, I'm not going to start

Hey,

I'm not going to start my rant on the subject...Although juggling with 9 or so other people I had never met before was so much fun and much more social :p

Anyway, yes we do still meet on Sundays, 11-2 in the Union as usual :)

Lilly

LOL juggling has more

LOL juggling has more scope??I can throw more things in the air. Same stuff more balls... great. I've been part of a group of considerably more than 12 people poi'ing together on several occasions, chatting, comparing skills and learning off each other, when you juggle you are always watching what you are doing and focusing on the next item, especially if you are doing more than say 5 items, whereas I love to stand and poi to music with my eyes closed - giving poi a degree of creativity and expression that juggling just cannot match as well as the fact that i can have a full conversation with another person while spinning meaning poi is just as sociable if not more than juggling.

SO standing on your own with

SO standing on your own with your eyes closed poiing to the music is sociable???

NO, the bit about standing

NO, the bit about standing in a big group chatting was about being sociable...the closed eyes bit was about poi having far more scope for expression and just generally better.

Big Kiss,

Alex

I think the difference here

I think the difference here is that when spinning in a group of 12 you are working on your own spinning. However much you are chatting to and learning from each other, you are not part of the same pattern.

When jugglers pass we are not simply chatting and learning from another, we are cooperating to create one big complex pattern between us. Sure we can stand in a circle and watch each other and pick up new tricks and ideas, but we can also go that one stage further and actually be part of something together.

(says the guy who spins poi for a living...)

Lol! This topic always gets

Lol!

This topic always gets peoples emotions running high.

Got to agree with Alex here though about the juggling/poi debate. With Juggling you are too busy watching multiple flying objects to be sociable, and poi is a more expressive art.

But of course we all know staff is the king of Fever skills........

Yay. Im so proud of myself

Yay. Im so proud of myself :P

Poi is better cause of the freedom of movement :) When you juggle you practically have to stay still although im sure some peeps can "go nuts" with juggling but I have never seen it yet.

I do the same as alex. Poiing with your eyes closed gives a greater sense of freedom and improves your Kinasthesis (spelling) (Ability to feel where you limbs and any extensions off them are). However when we all do the big poi sessions there are always the chances that people will have a stand off of some kind :) (Oli and Elwyn, I will be wanting a poi battle this weekend). 2-way and 3-way poi battles. hehe thetes no way anyone can say that isnt social :P

I have to say im a fan of staff and in fairness we did say that staff would beat poi in a fight. But probably not as much so in expression or freedom although I personally try to "dance" with the staff as well. Not as good at that as I am with poi but its getting there. oooo and Double Staff gives a greater degree of difficulty as well :)

Hehe im staying with spinning on this one (as im sure you are all suprised).

Andy... x

"You are what you eat and you clearly devoured a big fat guy didnt ya"?!

Poi-ing with your eyes

Poi-ing with your eyes closed ey. Damn. Sounds pretty easy. It took me a very long time to be able to juggle with my eyes closed and all of no seconds to be able to do the same with poi. I guess it's a whole different league isn't it.

(introducing Jon to the debate)

I could poi within minutes

I could poi within minutes of picking the things up, but juggle, well, it has been many years since I started trying to juggle, and I still can't.

I think this means juggling is harder, but both of them get equal amount of interest from those watching, although a group of 5 people juggling clubs (and sharing) is more impressive than 5 people poi-ing in my eyes.

Still, I think other things would win the crowd over more so...

With poi you can look at the

With poi you can look at the person you're speaking to and have a proper conversation whilst doing it, but nothing gets the conversation going like hitting someone you don't know in the face with a club!
